We are looking for a Senior Garment Technologist, with a strong interest in Circular fashion, sustainability, ethics and, fair trading initiatives to join their team covering a Maternity leave. The position starts in July 2024 for approximately 12 months.
This is a hybrid role 2 days working from home (Monday and Tuesday).
The Role
Leading the Garment Technology team, you’ll be working collaboratively with the Head of Buying, Merchandising team, and the Design team to deliver the very best product ranges that are on brand and in-line with the impact positive goals.
You’ll be representing the Garment Technical team in key seasonal and strategy meetings, so the ability to communicate and articulate well is a must.
You’ll have a strong knowledge of garment construction across multiple product types and be able to apply this to Knitwear, Jersey, Woven, and Seamless. You will be contributing during the design development process in ensuring functional garments without compromising on design and styling silhouettes.
Experience in working with different fabrics and fibres, would help in developing new innovative nature based fabrics- increasing to the award winning fabrics range.
Our Client has ambitious goals in their fibre strategy and in working towards end-of-life solutions for all of their products by 2030. As the Senior Garment Technologist, you’ll be collaborating with the product team in making sure that they are on track, hitting their seasonal targets, using problem solving skills to find suitable solutions.
A passion in Circular fashion is important for this role, and experience in this area is desirable, however for the right applicant training can be given.
In addition to our Client’s environmental and fibre impact goals, they also have ambitions to ensure all the products and fabrics are made by those who work in safe and fair working conditions. They are doing this through membership of Fair Wear. The Senior Garment Technologist will be leading the Human Rights due-diligence progress within the supply chain, so a good knowledge and experience on working with factories is required.
You’ll also have a track record of professional & friendly communication with overseas suppliers through clear, concise fit comments and answering day-to-day queries.
The Senior Garment Technologist will:
• Take responsibility for the end-to-end Garment Tech process for several categories and drive circular innovation and technical development into these areas to ensure we are delivering market leading products. Provide support to the Garment tech team transferring technical knowledge and expertise where needed.
• Work with the Technical team in preparing garments across all product areas for fit sessions and writing up comments accordingly.
• Work closely with the suppliers, alongside the Buying and Merchandiser team to maintain the critical path.
• Drive down return rates and increase customer loyalty by analysing returns and feedback information and driving constant improvements to fit, quality & consistency.
• Supporting/managing the bulk fabric approval process with the Garment Technical team.
• Supporting/managing the Garment Technical team, in care labels, and ‘on-garment branding’ with nominated suppliers.
• Collaborate with packaging and design teams to ensure labelling and packaging is up to date and product relevant.
• Together with the Garment Technology and Sustainability and Technical Manager, take responsibility for driving their product-based Impact goals, including working closely with the Circular Textile Foundation (CTF), and managing the internal fibre and material strategies, keeping our Client market leading in these areas.
• Support the Sustainability team & external partners in collating data for impact measurements.
• Ensure all factory audits are up to date, following through on any non-compliances. Understanding, and researching country level risks and applying this to individual factories to reduce the risk on poor labour conditions.
• Responsible for factory on-boarding, ensuring any new factories are in line with Social Impact strategy.
• Work closely with other relevant departments in ensuring product information is clearly communicated, and drive product-based projects which can help improve internal and customer knowledge on garments.
